Prepare people for the long haul in MLM , they will duplicate better.
Getting the “business owner” mindset as mentioned before is easy if you will simply pass along a few stories. Here is a story that has long been told by successful network marketers:
“ Your boss comes up to you and says they’ve got good news for you, you’re up for promotion. The problem is that you do not yet possess the skills to do the job. So they make a deal with you, they tell you that they will send you to night school for free. You will need to work two hours every night for 2 whole years with no pay while you study and get the education that you need. On the bright side at the end of two years ‘we’ll promote you, you’ll make an extra $2500 per month and get to work from your home office’. “
How does that sound? Kick back in your new desk chair at your home office?
We have found that if you get people to mentally prepare for the skills training process that the statistics get better. With one organization that we work with the retention ratio is so high that if we were to disclose the actual numbers many of our readers would not believe it. Maybe it will work for you?
Try educating people and preparing them as soon as you sponsor them. Surprises are often bad in this industry so it’s better that they be prepared for what to expect.
On the other hand we want to warn you that sometimes you must use critical thinking. If you are working hard and not seeing “little victories” it might be a sign that something about the business model or compensation plan is not right. There are many companies or MLM business models that are not on the “up and up”. We’re not saying to just close your critical eyes and “stick with it” for another year, evaluate.
If you suspect that the specific company may be the issue we recommend that you check with MLM Watchdog or contact us and we could connect you with an expert veteran in the industry to help you evaluate as we have networked with dozens of men and women that are up to date.
We believe that if you continue to educate people on the front end of your relationship to not have an “employee mindset” that you will get better results with your team retention ratio.

P.s– If you have a story that is relevant to helping alleviate the employee mindset in network marketers we’d love to hear it!

You’re going to give me my paycheck right?!
Ok, we are trying to address the problem of the 97% failure rate in the MLM industry so listen carefully because this is an innocent problem
Yes there are a lot of network marketing scams out there but some things aren’t the result of some devious company. Some problems are consistent lack of certain skills training. We call this one “employee mindset”. Your people come to you thinking like employees, it’s not a scam.
We must give credit to Tom “Big Al” Schreiter for this revelation, check out his site when you can. He’s a guy with the goods when it comes to network marketing street smarts.
Does this sound familiar?
You sponsor some wonderful person and in the back of your mind you know that they are going to come back in a month complaining because they haven’t seen a paycheck yet. Now, some companies are the culprit, but let’s assume that’s NOT the case and people have a good company then the problem is their “mindset”.
Most network marketers do not have business training. They then try working for a week and when the company (boss) doesn’t give them a paycheck they start thinking “what kind of network marketing scam is this”.
Ok, maybe they let a few weeks pass or months without pay but you get the picture!
Our solution:
Implement this story into your sponsoring or mentoring process:
Tell them “ If Donald Trump were building a casino in your hometown how long would he work at it before he saw a profit? Let’s say that Trump comes to your town and buys some property. First he spends a year finding it and spends upwards of a few million dollars on just the land, then he goes door to door making sure the neighbors are ok, then to the City to get it zoned. Wow, a whole two more years pass and still no casino! I quit! Says Trump. (yeah right). He then finishes up with the architect and walks outside past the chain link fence and views the deep hole in the ground poured for the foundation. Do you think Trump says ‘what kind of business is this? I’ve spent 3 years and millions of dollars just to have zero profit!’”
You get the point? Educate people to think like “business owners” and make a sincere investment of time to learn the skills needed.
If you and or your team can regularly deal with “employee mentality” and change that to a “business owner” mentality then we can see the retention ratios rise and help to do our part to redeem the MLM reputation. Plus, the royalty income from their success is nice too!
